Because shaving, tweezing and waxing only work for a short while, many people are turning to laser hair reduction for better and lasting results. This treatment has made a big difference to many of our patient’s lives. Some of whom had to shave up to three times a day before coming to our clinic. Is this the right treatment for me?
A course of laser hair removal is suitable for almost anyone but won’t work on blonde or grey hairs and isn’t advisable when your skin is tanned. We can certainly treat you if your skin is naturally dark.
How many treatments will I need?
Everyone is different but you can expect to have a course of treatments over 3 to 4 months for good results. We’ll advise how many treatments you’ll need at your free consultation.
What happens during treatment?
Your specialist nurse will meet you and guide you through each stage of the treatment. We may begin with small test patches of different laser settings to see which gives the best results and take photos to monitor your progress.
How does it feel?
Most people describe the feeling of the laser on the skin as like being flicked by an elastic band or a small pin prick. We use an air cooling system to make it more comfortable and anaesthetic cream if needed. Our qualified medical team are able to offer local/general anaesthetics.
How does it work?
Laser treatment works through the melanin or dark pigment in dark hair. Laser light is absorbed by the pigment and destroys the hair from the inside out. You need a course of treatments to catch every hair in the right stage of its growth cycle and prevent it growing back.
What happens afterwards?
Your skin may look red in places but this usually fades within 1 to 24 hours. You’ll need to avoid the sun afterwards to prevent the skin darkening. But don’t worry, we’ll explain all of the aftercare at your free consultation.
